Answer: D · 2,00,000 IU orally
Vitamin A prophylaxis starts with 1,00,000 IU at 9 months along with measles-rubella vaccine. From 16-18 months, 2,00,000 IU is given every six months until five years of age, nine doses in all. The solution is given orally with the marked spoon. It prevents night blindness and lowers deaths from measles and diarrhoea.
- A: Vitamin A prophylaxis is given by mouth, not by injection.
- B: 50,000 IU is used for infants under six months in treatment schedules, not this booster.
- C: 1,00,000 IU is the infant dose given at 9 months only.
